Fees

Trust requires clarity. Every engagement is set out in a written fee agreement, signed before any work begins.

Principle

A fixed fee, an agreement, no surprises

French law requires attorneys to inform their clients about fees. I go one step further: I commit to providing you, before any work begins, with a written fee agreement detailing the nature of the engagement, the amount of the fixed fee, foreseeable costs and payment terms.

My fees are primarily set as a fixed amount, based on the nature and complexity of the file. In certain cases (long proceedings, files whose outcome directly affects a compensation), we may discuss an additional success fee.

How do fees work in personal injury cases?

In personal injury matters — road accidents, assault, medical accidents — the goal is to secure the compensation you are entitled to. The first consultation is free: the initial review of your file commits you to nothing.

The cost is usually structured in two parts. A moderate fixed fee, set out in a written agreement, covers the review of the file and the handling of the proceedings. Where the engagement seeks compensation, an additional success fee applies, proportional to the sums actually recovered. Most of the fee is therefore tied to the result actually obtained for you.

If your resources fall below the legal thresholds, legal aid may cover all or part of the costs; otherwise, payment in instalments remains possible. The figures are always agreed together, in writing, before any work begins.

Frequently asked questions

Fees: frequently asked questions

Can I afford an attorney for a personal injury case?

The first consultation is free and without commitment. For compensation matters, a significant part of the fee takes the form of a success fee, proportional to the sums recovered: the fee is therefore largely tied to the result actually obtained for you. Legal aid and payment in instalments allow the arrangement to be adapted to your situation.

What is a success fee?

It is an additional fee, provided for in the written agreement, calculated in proportion to the sums actually recovered (compensation, damages). It is added to the base fixed fee and, under French law, cannot be the attorney's sole remuneration. Its amount and method of calculation are set in advance and stated in the fee agreement.

Is legal aid compatible with a success fee?

Yes, within the conditions set by law. Where legal aid is only partial, an additional fee — including a success fee — may be agreed in writing. Where it is full, the rules specific to that regime apply. We review together, from the first consultation, the regime best suited to your file.

Ethics and confidentiality

Every exchange with an attorney is covered by professional secrecy. The information you share with me, as early as the first consultation, cannot be disclosed to any third party — even if no file is opened. This rule is absolute and part of the foundation of our relationship.
